
A wheel-bearing inquiry can appear simple: one OE number, one bearing. In practice, the correct repair kit may require a circlip, axle nut, seal, flange, encoder ring or complete hub assembly. Importers should compare the full kit contents, not only the bearing dimensions.
1. Identify the bearing generation
Passenger vehicles use several wheel-bearing designs, from separate tapered bearings to compact hub-bearing units with integrated flanges. The correct generation affects the pressing method and the hardware included.
2. Confirm ABS encoder details
Some bearings include a magnetic impulse ring for the ABS system. The encoder side must face the sensor. A visually similar bearing installed in the wrong orientation can trigger warning lights or produce no wheel-speed signal.
3. Compare the complete kit
List every item supplied: bearing, hub, circlip, axle nut, seal, O-ring, dust cap and installation instructions. A cheaper kit may require the workshop to source missing single-use hardware locally.
4. Check application and production breaks
The same model may change bearing specification during production. Confirm VIN/chassis code, axle position, drivetrain, brake setup and production date. Do not rely on diameter alone.
5. Ask about installation requirements
Pressing force should be applied to the correct ring so load is not transmitted through the rolling elements. Special tools may be required for compact bearing units. Improper installation can damage a new bearing before the vehicle returns to the road.
Packaging and corrosion protection
Machined bearing surfaces need clean, dry packaging. Heavy hub assemblies should not move inside the carton. The label should identify the OE references and kit contents clearly.
For a useful quotation, provide the OE number, vehicle, axle position, ABS requirement and a photograph of the old hub or bearing label. Ask the supplier to send a kit-content photo before shipment.
